Fuel prices are currently soaring amid lingering controversies surrounding the Nord Stream 2 project – a gas pipeline that has been completed but has not yet commenced commercial operations to supply Russian gas. .
Meanwhile, according to data from the Gascade operator, on December 27, Europe’s Yamal gas pipeline – which carries gas from Russia to Western Europe – continued to pump fuel from Germany to Poland. This is the 7th day in a row that the pipeline changes direction.
Data shows that in the morning of December 27, the flow at Mallnow station on the German-Polish border is heading east into Poland with a capacity of nearly 1.2 million KWh/hour.
Gas auction results show that Russian gas exporter Gazprom did not register to transport export gas through the Yamal-Europe pipeline on December 27.
Gascade is owned by WIGA, a joint venture between Gazprom and the oil company Wintershall DEA.
The company Wintershall DEA is co-owned by BASF (Germany) and LetterOne (Russia) chemical group. Gascade buys Russian gas and supplies it within Germany.
Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Germany was selling Russian gas back to Poland and Ukraine (Ukraine) rather than to relieve the overheated market.
He also confirmed that the deployment of gas exports through Nord Stream 2 running through the Baltic Sea would lead to a reduction in gas prices in Europe.
The German Economy Ministry declined to comment. Meanwhile, the US and some Eastern European countries do not support the Nord Stream 2 project, arguing that the project will make the European Union (EU) more dependent on gas from Russia – a country that has supplies 35% of the EU’s gas needs.
