The opportunity to export rice cannot be missed

TP – According to experts, Vietnam once missed the opportunity when the price of rice increased, so the current ban on rice export is a rare opportunity for Vietnamese rice to accelerate and dominate the market. According to calculations, if the rice area is increased this year, rice exports can increase by 500 million USD, equal to the amount that the World Bank (WB) lends Vietnam to implement the project of 1 million hectares of high-quality rice.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, this year’s rice cultivation area of our country is about 7 million hectares, with an output of about 43 million tons of rice per year, equivalent to 27-28 million tons of rice. Currently, many opinions are also concerned about whether promoting rice exports in this context, will Vietnam ensure food security? Calculations by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in the “very high safety” scenario show that the amount of rice used to ensure food security of 100 million people and other domestic consumption needs (for animal feed processing, project population, national reserve, breeding…) about 29.5 million tons/year.
