Currently, black tiger shrimp are purchased by traders at Tra Vinh with prices ranging from 145,000 to VND 155,000/kg, for shrimp of 30 type/kg; 40 pieces are priced at 115,000 – 120,000 VND, an increase of 5,000 VND/kg. Particularly for black tiger shrimp of 50 pieces/kg, an increase of 10,000 VND/kg. While vannamei shrimp average price also increased by 3,000-5,000 VND/kg compared to the previous week. However, the current shrimp price is still lower than the beginning of the crop from 25,000 – 35,000 VND/kg.
Not only did the price drop sharply, this year’s shrimp crop has adverse weather, the large temperature difference between day and night makes the pond environment fluctuate, pathogens arise, and input costs increase, so farming households are mostly affected. hole.
Mr. Lam Van Sang, in Hiep My Dong commune, Cau Ngang district – who has been harvesting shrimp for nearly half a month but has not yet dared to renovate the pond for further stocking, said: “The shrimp is cheap, but the food and aquatic medicine are expensive. . Compared with the same period last year, each kilogram of shrimp farmers lost from 30,000 to 35,000 VND. Recently harvested approximately 18 tons, if compared to the previous price, the family lost 600-700 million VND.
This year, Tra Vinh province plans to raise black tiger shrimp and vannamei shrimp about 28,000 hectares, an increase of more than 180 hectares compared to 2022. The total production value of the seafood industry is estimated at more than 12,000 billion VND.
However, with the current shrimp price situation, the farming area of the province is very difficult to reach the plan, especially for the area of “white leg shrimp”. Currently, the agricultural sector of Tra Vinh province is encouraging shrimp farmers to repeat the crop, but stocking with low density or spreading the crop to limit the risk of disease.
