The Vietnam Logistics Business Association said that the volume of goods in the first month of the year had not recorded a strong growth because economic trade was still under the prolonged influence of the COVID-19 epidemic and the peak period. Import of goods during Tet holiday of the US and Europe has just ended, so the shipping market has slowed down.

Commenting on opportunities for Vietnam’s seaports in 2022, a representative of the Vietnam Seaports Association said that from mid-2020 until now, the world economy has recovered strongly, the sea transportation market has also become should be vibrant.

If at the beginning of 2020, new orders for container ships only accounted for 8.5% of the existing fleet’s capacity, now this figure accounts for 23-24%.

According to statistics from Alphaliner (a shipping analysis company), the number of newly built ships with a capacity of 8,000 – 24,000 TEUs accounts for nearly 22%, meaning that a quarter of new ships are from 8,000 TEUs or more.

“The excitement in the container shipping market will last until the end of this year. The growing container fleet and the trend of increasing vessel tonnage will be a great opportunity for Vietnam’s seaports, with a focus on Cai Mep gateway ports. – Thi Vai and Lach Huyen (Hai Phong)”, a representative of the Vietnam Seaports Association said.
