World supply is scarce, coal exports increase sharply in August

The sharp increase in world coal demand while the decrease in supply from Indonesia also has a positive impact on Vietnam’s coal exports. Specifically, in August, coal exports reached nearly 190 thousand tons, worth 22 million USD, up 38% in volume and 26% in value compared to July.
Coal exports increased sharply in August

According to the General Department of Customs, coal exports of all kinds in August reached nearly 190 thousand tons, worth 22 million USD, up 38% in volume and 26% in value compared to July.

Accumulated in the first 8 months of the year, coal exports reached 1.2 million tons, equivalent to 148 million USD, nearly 2.5 times in volume and 2.2 times in export turnover over the same period in 2020.

Export coal price in August reached 117 USD/ton, down 11% USD/ton compared to July. Generally in the first 8 months of the year, the average export coal price reached 124 USD/ton, down nearly 10% over the same period last year. 2020.

Thus, Vietnam’s coal exports are regaining momentum after falling 56% in July. The reason is because the world’s coal demand has increased sharply while the supply is scarce.

According to  Bloomberg, analytics firm Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Asia’s coal price is forecasted to double as the global demand for thermal power recovers while the supply in key mining countries is scarce.
