In the first 11 months of 2021, imported nearly 14 million tons of coal from Indonesia, equivalent to nearly $1.2 billion, down 11% in volume but up 65% in value over the same period in 2020, accounting for more than 41% of the volume. coal imports from Vietnam.

Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that on December 31, 2021, the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Minerals announced a temporary ban on coal exports in January for all entities that are mining and trading coal with high potential. licenses: IUP (Mining Business License); IUPK (Production Operation Special Mining Business License) and PKP2B (Concession Agreement).
According to the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the temporary ban on exports is to ensure the supply of raw coal for coal-fired power plants, and to prevent the risk of electricity shortage for production and daily life in this country.
This move of Indonesia forces coal production and business enterprises to fulfill the obligation to supply 25% of the total amount of coal exported to the domestic market.
The Indonesian government said that when the domestic coal supply is fully met, coal producers will be able to resume export business.
