Many shipping companies suddenly stop service between China and Russia

In recent days, when European countries have imposed economic sanctions on Russia, many shipping companies have suddenly stopped providing services to Russian ports.

“We are planning to unload garlic and ginger from Chinese ships en route to Saint Petersburg at European ports. One of our garlic containers is stuck in Piraeus, Greece, and No one came to pick it up. Garlic comes from Jinxiang – the hometown of garlic. Product quality is good. We are looking for a buyer quickly,” said Bryan Wang of Apris International Co., Ltd. said.
The UK was the first to announce that cargo ships destined for Russia were no longer allowed to call at British ports. Chinese importers and exporters received information on March 2 that many shipping companies, including Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd and ONE, were suspending shipping services to Russia.
In addition to transportation problems, many foreign companies also face payment problems because Russia has been excluded from SWIFT. The trading partners of China and Russia are required to find new payment solutions. Currently, commercial transactions between them can only be paid in Chinese yuan.
Mr. Wang added, “We have shipped 3 containers. In addition to the ship that was forced to unload in Piraeus, we have 2 more containers that are en route to Europe. The outbreak of conflict in Ukraine has caused leaving many exporters unprepared. We hope to be able to find buyers in Europe as soon as possible.” So far, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has not had an impact on shipping fees.
